Debrief with lead actor Clinton Powell

This zoom call was recorded in in early 2021, after Clinton has watched several versions of the evolving film cut. He speaks in depth about his reactions to the film and how the film/theater landscape will likely change in the post Covid environment.

Imitation is the highest form of flattery

Six-year old Elle saw Fear of Open Spaces twice. The second showing took place in the Williamsburg apartment which was the film’s location. The analog phone was left on the wall after filming for sentimental reasons. Elle pushed a chair under it and climbed on top to re-enact the scene in which our (anti) hero calls the pharmacy to give them an earful.

This video shows her performance and the scene from the film.

What’s the Score?

My first collaboration with Kase was for the short film, Blood Brothers in 2016. Exploring the story in terms of themes and images and how those could be translated (and supported by) music, it was a creatively amazing experience. Re-teaming four years later for another short film was a no brainer. This time we had distance (Kase moved from Brooklyn to L.A.), so our meetings were through zoom. In this initial conversation, we talk about inspirational films from Pi to Taxi Driver to Pan's Labyrinth, with a special focus on Trent Reznor's work on David Fincher's films.
